The Longroads coffee House was a busy establishment run by Laria Longroad. After introductions by Rexus the party were ushered into a back room and soon were telling the halfling about their investigations so far and their overall aims. Laria, was it turned out, an old hand with dealing with the secret organisations of Kintargo, and was in fact the key contact of the Bellflower network in the city. But all of the organisations had gone to ground since the night of ashes. Still Laria was a good source of advice and after volunteering to investigate the disappearance of her friend Nan Comerivos, who was using the tunnels under the coffee house and hadn’t been heard of in a few days, she offered the ‘Wasps Nest’ as a base of operations for the rebellion that the players were going to organise.
Still flush with the success of their previous encounters the party decided to head straight down into the tunnels to see what was going in. Behind a secret door in the basement the tunnels widened out into darkness beyond . The sound of gently lapping water could be heard and Terhill headed silently down the Corridor towards the sound. At the edge of his vision he could make out a small jetty into an inderground river with a low ceiling, obviously the smuggling route that Laria had mentioned. Beyond was a statue of Callistrae, the reason for the strange name Laria had given the tunnels. Then the young noble spotted movement in the water, something large, just under the surface. As he attempted to step back quietly his foot brushed a loose rock and the shape blurred into action, charging at an almost unbelievable speed towards him. A giant Alligator and it looked like the last person it had eaten hadn’t filled satisfied its hunger.
Terhil’s desperate attempt to defend himself was quickly overwhelmed and the creature soon had him in its jaws. The rest of the party rushed in to help, but would they be able to reach him in time? Luck was on Terhils side though and he managed to roll himself out of the creatures mouth. While Pellius dealt with the alligator, Erik administered to Terhill’s wounds, and then everything was silent for a moment.
A squawk shattered the brief silence, Percy looked up to see a strange bird like creature heading towards him. It looked angry and didn’t seem to want to talk. Acting on reflex he flung a glob of acid at the, which only seemed to anger it even more. And before he could do anything else it was upon him. A flurry of claws later and Percy dropped to the ground unconscious.
The rest of the party rallied around, Terhil was still injured but this was another threat that needed to be dealt with. The creature seemed to be mad with rage and even when Pellius dealt it what was surely a killing blow, it still carried on. After a frantic battle the creature soon lay dead at their feet, a mass of feathers and claws. Taking a few minutes to gather themselves and heal as much as they could the party headed deeper into the wasps nest where a flickering light could be seen…
